Session Information
09 SES 07 A, Findings from International Comparative Achievement Studies. Session 3: Relating Achievement to Individual, School and System Level Factors (Part 2)
Symposium, continues from 09 Ses 06 A
Contribution
The participation of Kazakhstan in the PISA international survey has enabled the country to reveal the international standing of the country and to use the data to analyse potential problems existing in our educational system. The country is facing major methodological work aimed at improving the level of competency of Kazakh students. Considering the research results, it is also necessary to take into account the influence of the various factors connected to the organization of education, ways of teaching and school resources. For example, the pupils of schools in the rural area had less score points. For these schools it is possible to identify some factors influencing educational achievement, such as the location of educational institution, socio-economic status of the parents, immigrant background (as, basically, the families of the immigrants from Mongolia and China were placed in the rural area), home language, the students' attitudes towards the educational process, and school resources.
