Contribution
This presentation focuses on mathematics teachers in lower secondary and upper secondary school. Teachers in both these levels of schooling were questioned about their beliefs and practices related to mathematics teaching, and some excerpts will be presented here. What can be described as ‘characteristics’ of their answers, will then be compared in an attempt to approach possible similarities and/or differences. This is all linked to a research project concerning the transition from lower secondary to upper secondary school and the learning and teaching of functions. In Norway the transition from the 10th to the 11th grade always involves these separate institutions. I find the results presented here to be interesting, as they all somehow relate to the transition issue, and hopefully, these preliminary findings could give rise to meaningful discussions related to how a qualitative approach to this issue might be carried out.
