Contribution
In recent years, educational political aspects have received high levels of attention in Germany; particularly owing to findings from large-scale studies such as TIMMS 1995 and PISA 2000 a rising need for research in the domains concerned became evident. A large number of aligned funding programmes was set up after 2000, aiming to put the “empirical turn“ in education into practice which was particularly pursued by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) (Buchhaas-Birkholz 2009).
The assessment of changes in an interdisciplinary field of research that is subject to such dynamic change can deliver knowledge for governing and planning measures in research funding: our contribution looks into such an investigation.
Based on the assumption that research projects serve as clear indicators of developments in a field of research, structural and content-related developments are assessed for educational research projects, scholarly communication culture relating to publication output of the projects, and the dimensions of effects of research findings as documented in reception analyses of respective publications.
In this framework, adequate Indicators shall be identified for describing the interdisciplinary field of educational research and analysed across time (Hornbostel 1999).
