Contribution
Special classes for Roma and Sinti students existed in Europe at least since 1960s, as the case of Italy, and in some European countries still exist. What are the consequences of such education system on the epistemology of the school elaborated by these ethnic minorities? Special classes have left, to many of the older generations of Roma and Sinti parents, an heavy burden to see the school as a possible place of a useful education for their children. Therefore, in this paper we will analyze the model of ‘Lacio Drom’ classes only for ‘Gypsy’ children and the reproduction of some features of the special classes ‘educative project’ in contemporary school. This theoretical framework aims to highlight the negative experiences lived at school from the older Sinti and Roma relatives and the consequences, of that model, on the education practices towards their children in the contemporary formal education system.
