Contribution
This paper develops further the theme of participation, but with specific regard to classroom interventions. Following an examination of how and why, perhaps, participatory methods have previously found it more difficult to permeate the school curriculum, they examine data from the project to identify the extent to which a particular methodology (IVAC) for engaging and working with pupil participation was appreciated by school staff as a means to challenge this position. Specifically, they discuss the role that this approach played in supporting teachers’ and school leaders’ curriculum development endeavours with a particular focus on ‘change’. Finally, they present a typology, which, they argue, offers a mechanism whereby barriers and assists to participation can be considered, thus providing a means to operationalise work in this area.
