Session Information
28 SES 07, The Post-Comprehensive School In Europe. The Role of Journals in the Elaboration of a Critical and Reflexive Analysis
symposium
Contribution
Does the end of the comprehensive school announce a (re)arrangement of the school on other bases or the end of the school? According to the experts of OECD, the survival of the school is only one scenario among others, and not necessarily the most plausible. British think-tanks preach the extinction of the institutions of higher education. Others prolong the reflection by including also the compulsory education. Analysts predict the end of the “period of the instruction” (parenthèse de l’instruction) and the killing of the “school form”. Facing the darkest scenarios, public authorities react in very diverse manners. In French-speaking Belgium, the public authority chose to intervene on a growing number of matters, which were previously regulated by lower levels of power. The relative failure of their interventions on issues which they consider essential, like the social diversity of the establishments, can only weaken even more the school.
