This paper analyses the influence of New Education at the beginning of the 20th century in Greece, in particular in the second and third decade. In this period we observe a strong effort to reform Greek education system and to improve teachers training through new pedagogic methods, new books and new curricula. The "Education Council", an institution of Ministry of Education responsible for primary and secondary education, should realize this. The new ideas stand in opposition to Herbart s' pedagogic as a closed normative system of knowledge, and had the intention to create a new type of teacher beginning from a pedagogy from "the child" and "for the best of the young man". This period of the Greek education system is less documentated as others, because of the lack of research material. Historical analysis, hermeneutical approach of new material founded in the archive of the "Central Office of Ministry of Education"The key point is to examine how strong and effective were this reform in Greek education system, which is characteristic by an endless reform and counterreform and a continuous antogonism between an antiquated ancient Greek tradition and a realistic and democratic one. In this framework questions such as, how far ideas from New Education gain succes in Greek education system and how strong influence the development of primary and secondary education or if one could speek from a pedogogic turn in Greek education history, are of key omportance. The paper will focus on that topic. the archive of the "Central Office of Ministry of Education" Issues of History of Education, International Journal
