Contribution
The poster/paper focuses on a local development work in a Swedish school. The school had specially selected groups of school participants which have been working together with a perspective of school that is oriented towards educational sociology and focuses on relationships between the school as an institution and school as organizations. As the institution of the school represents mandates that set the outer boundaries for the school activities and the internal cultures of school mark the inner boundaries for the daily work in school. These boundaries- in relation to each other- opens up for a scope or action available for development in school.
I have used the case study, since the study of the process is extended in time and in which real persons in fact are in focus. Open observations, interviews, analysis of document of different art and field studies have been a way to collect data.
The ambition is to improve the relations between the actual strategy for school development work and entrepreneurship. I also want to disuse how partnership can be used as a tool in the development work and process.
The school has been aware from the beginning that the actual work depends on development methods to improve the daily work and give the students a higher quality in their school. Students and staffs have been working equal to each other - in opposite to what is the fact in routines of daily work. The participants have been working in a way that can be similar to a partnership that represents an organisational form for cooperation within the municipality. The definitions to partnership refer however to a formal cooperation between actors in the private and public sectors. It represents an organisational form for cooperation; can it also be used in a school development work?
Partnership is a form of work used in development work in which actors with complementary and also overlapping interests and areas of responsibility are involved in a
common planning and implementation process.
Is it possible to work this way to combine a top down and a bottom up strategy for school development? The concept of a double strategy is to combine top down oriented governance from the central level with bottom up oriented participation and influence through the partnership. Does partnership represent a new strategy to promote sustainable development and change?
