Call for applications: Histories of Education Summer School

This summer school is an initiative of EERA’s Network 17, ‘Histories of Education’ and is the sixth conference in a series of successful events that started in Ghent in 2010 and was followed by meetings in Birmingham 2011, Lisbon 2012, Hamburg 2013, and Umeå 2014. This edition of the summer school is organised by the University of Luxembourg.

Education across Europe - a photographic conversation

Network 17 (Histories of Education) is preparing a special e-publication to mark the 20th anniversary in 2014 of the foundation of EERA. We would like to commission scholars from the twenty-eight countries that currently make up EERA to produce a small ‘essay’ or conversation piece of around 500 words on education in their country (in the largest possible sense of the word) based on the content of one or two photographs. The photographs will have been taken at any time from the late nineteenth century up to the late twentieth century. These small essays and the respective photographs would then be published in the form of an e-book.

EERJ Call: Re examining the Comprehensive School project in Europe

In the 1960s, educational policies were oriented in the OECD countries towards a comprehensive education project presented at that time as bringing both social justice and economic efficiency within a new school type. However, there has been a widespread re-examination of the comprehensive project and an uneven emergence of a post-comprehensive period in ideas and school forms.
